More NFL Quarterbacks Should Share Eli Manning's Attitude for Mentoring Young Backups

After letting Eli Manning start without legitimate competition for WAY too long, the New York Giants finally brought in a potential franchise guy by using the No. 6 pick in the 2019 draft on Duke quarterback Daniel Jones.

While some have already assumed that Manning is defiantly going to hold onto the starting job until Jones pries it from his cold, dead hands, Manning is actually willing to help Jones learn the game in preparation for him to take over as the starter. And that's a refreshing outlook for the veteran to have.

This is a selfless act from Manning, who surely senses that he's closing in on the end of his career.

On the complete opposite end of this spectrum is Denver Broncos quarterback Joe Flacco. After giving Lamar Jackson the cold shoulder during his final year as a Baltimore Raven, Flacco, who entered camp as QB1 for Denver, isn't prioritizing the development of their own newly-drafted signal-caller, Drew Lock.

Only time will tell if taking the promising rookie under your wing or throwing him to the wolves and letting him fend for himself will be the more prudent strategy. But for now, more quarterbacks ought to take Eli's lead and be less afraid to help out the young guys behind them on the depth chart.
