Most Overpaid Players on the Eagles

The Philadelphia Eagles are one of the few teams in the league that can claim not to have an albatross contract on their ledger, as most of their expensive players, like defensive tackle Fletcher Cox, quarterback Carson Wentz, and tight end Zach Ertz, have earned every bit of their expensive deals.

Contrary to popular Philly belief, however, Howie Roseman is not without fault, as he probably would like a mulligan when it comes to these three unsightly contracts.

3. DT Malik Jackson

Jackson's first season in his three-year, $30 million deal with the Eagles was a complete wash, as injuries prevented him from taking the field in a meaningful way. A base salary of just over $1 million and a cap hit of $4.6 million doesn't sound awful, but when you factor in the $17.2 million in dead cap that Philly's fourth-best defensive lineman is eating up, his contract starts to look worse and worse. Hopefully his play makes up for it this year.

2. WR DeSean Jackson

In his heyday, there was no one else quite like Jackson due to his game-breaking speed. While his performance against the Redskins in Week 1 shows that he still has some juice left, his injuries have made his contract an unsightly spot on the Eagles' payroll. An $8.6 million cap hit with $12 million in dead cap for an aging, injured receiver who will fall down the depth chart after the Eagles draft another wideout isn't exactly ideal.

1. WR Alshon Jeffery

On top of the fact that Jeffery has been fingered by many as the anonymous source that took shots at Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz, the way Jeffery's four-year, $52 million contract is set up leaves the Eagles in a very rigid financial place due to his $26 million in dead cap. Jeffery has yet to top 1,000 yards in a season despite playing with Wentz in a pass-happy offense, and that declining skill mixed in with a poor attitude and a bloated contract makes for a guy Roseman can't wait to jettison.
