NFL Suspends Myles Garrett Indefinitely for Browns-Steelers Fight and Fines Both Teams $250K
By Michael Luciano
The NFL has finally announced a litany of suspensions and fines following Thursday night's ugly melee at the end of the Cleveland Browns' 21-7 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Browns defensive end Myles Garrett, who ripped Steelers quarterback Mason Rudolph's helmet off and used it as a weapon to hit him in the head, was suspended indefinitely and cannot return to the field before the start of the 2020 season. Steelers center Maurkice Pouncey, who kicked Garrett while he was on the ground, was suspended three games, while Browns defensive tackle Larry Ogunjobi will miss one game after pushing Rudolph to the ground.
Rudolph escaped any sort of disciplinary blowback, while the Pittsburgh and Cleveland organiations were each fined $250,000.
Obviously, Garrett was dealt the most significant penalty, and he will need to meet with Commissioner Roger Goodell if he wishes to be reinstated.
The league got it right by suspending Pouncey and Ogunjobi, too, who needed to be held accountable, though there's an argument to be made that these two both got off easy.
It's going to be quite a long time before we see Garrett back on an NFL field, and it's hard to argue against it. That's how disgusting and dangerous this whole mess was.
