Nationals Reliever Daniel Hudson to Miss Time After Being Placed on Postseason Paternity List
By Sean Facey
The Washington Nationals will be without one of their top relievers for at least the first game of their series against the St. Louis Cardinals.
High-leverage reliever Daniel Hudson has been placed on the postseason paternity list and will be replaced by reliever Wander Suero, according to Mark Feinsand. Hudson will miss a minimum of one day and a maximum of three days, after which he will return, supplanting Suero once more.
Hudson has been the most effective and reliable reliever out of the bullpen for the Nationals this postseason. In his three appearances, he has yet to allow a run, issuing just two walks and three hits while striking out four batters. Needless to say, it hurts the team not to have him as an option late in the game.
It's equally painful considering that Suero is replacing him. The 28-year-old righty managed a rather disappointing 4.54 ERA on the year, not to mention the fact that he allowed two hits and a run while recording just one out in the NLDS. His 3.07 FIP suggests he was extremely unlucky, but fans shouldn't hold their breath for his fortune to turn here in October. In his final 12 games, he pitched to the tune of a 5.59 ERA.
Sure, it's unfortunate that Hudson has to leave right at the start of the NLCS, but family always comes first, and Hudson definitely has his priorities in order here.
Time will tell whether or not the Nationals end up missing him for just the first game or the pair, but there's no faulting him for leaving the team.
