NBA to Honor David Stern With Commemorative Black Bands on Player Uniforms
By Ian Anderson
The entire NBA is going to be honoring the late David Stern, and it shouldn't be any other way.
For the remainder of the 2019-20 NBA season, all players and officials will be sporting commemorative black bands to remember the former commissioner.
Stern tragically passed away on New Year's Day at the age of 77 following a brain hemorrhage. These bands are one of the many ways that the NBA plans to honor him this season.
Players, executives, and fans across the sports world have begun to pay their respects to the commissioner who ruled over the NBA for 30 seasons. Expect the tributes to continue for quite some time, as the impact that he had on the internal growth and global popularity NBA and the sporting community in general will stand the test of time.
Stern was relentless in his mission to expand the NBA in terms of marketability, economic potential, and on-court product. He never shied away from a fight, and would take on anything and anyone necessary to push things forward.
And he rarely lost.
The depth of his contributions to the game cannot be understated. May these oncoming tributes do justice to the legacy of a man who took the NBA into the big time.
