NBC Flexes Out Totally Fine NFL Game in Favor for 49ers-Packers for SNF in Week 12
By Mark Powell
Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers are one of the greatest draws in the modern NFL, but this seems a bit strange.
The Packers face the 49ers in Week 12, and NBC has opted to flex in this game as their Sunday Night Football broadcast choice, kicking Seahawks vs Eagles to the curb.
Is 49ers vs Packers a better matchup on paper? Sure. But how much of an advantage does this really have over Seahawks vs Eagles.
Seattle features a perennial MVP candidate in Russell Wilson--a man who is favored to win the same award for the 2019 league year. The Eagles, meanwhile, are fighting for the NFC East or a Wild Card spot.
Featuring the Packers in primetime is always a wise decision ratings-wise for any of the major networks. While Seahawks and Eagles fans are unlikely to understand that, the NFL is a money-driven institution, meaning their decision, while harsh to some fanbases, is unlikely to change.
