VIDEO: Celtics Fans Are About to Lose it After Kyrie Irving Calls for Matchup Against Kemba Walker
By Scott Rogust
Kyrie Irving was supposed to be the next big thing for the Boston Celtics organization when he arrived back in 2017. That never materialized, as the Celtics were never able to reach the NBA Finals in his two-season tenure. Celtics fans thought they had rid themselves of Irving for good, but that all changed over the weekend. During an Instagram Live appearance with former basketball player Darryl "Truck" Bryant, the current Brooklyn Nets star issued a one-on-one challenge to current Boston point man Kemba Walker.
Boston fans will definitely be clamoring to see this pickup game simply in hopes of seeing Kyrie get washed. The guy they hated versus their new favorite point guard! Who on earth would they cheer for?
Hmmm.
Irving earned the ire of Celtics fans in just two short years. He demanded a trade to Boston with the purpose of being a No. 1option instead of LeBron James' sidekick with the Cleveland Cavaliers. As we all know, he proved to be anything but a leader. Irving called out Celtics players on and off the court, while his teammates suggested that he could be difficult to work with. Add the numerous injuries to the mix, and Celtics fans had seen enough.
Walker was brought in to be Irving's replacement, and he's done what Irving was supposed to do: dish the ball around and capitalize on scoring opportunities. More importantly, Walker has shown positive leadership in a matter of months with the Celtics.
A true far cry from Irving's ball dominance and frequent lack of personal accountability.
We, like Celtics fans, want to know: When is this game taking place? If Kyrie vs. Kemba comes to fruition, you'd best believe everyone will watch.
