Saints Hoping to Resurrect Former Packer Ty Montgomery and We Won't Put it Past Them
Ty Montgomery had himself a significant fall from grace that started in 2018 with the Green Bay Packers. He brought out a kick from the end zone and proceeded to fumble the ball when the plan was for him to take a knee and let Aaron Rodgers embark on a game-winning drive. The team only trailed by two points with two minutes to go.
A flex player who can line up as a running back or wide receiver, Montgomery was traded soon after to the Baltimore Ravens before spending 2019 with the New York Jets. His production has dropped precipitously after leaving Green Bay, and it appeared heading into 2020 that his career might just be over.
That was until news broke that the New Orleans Saints are giving Montgomery another chance.
The team that has made Taysom Hill a unique and dominant threat on offense in a versatile, occasionally unpredictable role. If anyone is able to figure out a way to make the 27-year-old Montgomery useful again, it's Sean Payton and Co.
His best season came in 2016, when he had 348 receiving yards and 457 rushing yards playing with Aaron Rodgers. Now, he's back on a team that boasts a future Hall of Famer at quarterback in Drew Brees. This sure sounds like the beginning of a possible redemption story.
That infamous fumble for the Packers is a black mark on Montgomery's career, but Sean Payton is a creative offensive mind and should be able to utilize yet another guy who can both run and catch the ball. He is also a capable kick returner and can take some of the load off Hill from doing a little bit of everything on offense. Don't count out a bounce-back campaign from Montgomery.
