New Reported Details About Patriots Video Scandal Back up Bill Belichick Claim
By Scott Rogust
Stop us if you heard this, but the New England Patriots are involved in yet another scandal. Many were stunned to find out that a production crew hired by owner Robert Kraft were caught filming the sidelines of the Cincinnati Bengals, of all teams.
Head coach Bill Belichick told the media on Wednesday that the team's scout had no idea of the camera crew's actions at FirstEnergy Stadium. And as it turns out, he wasn't lying.
According to Jeff Howe of "The Athletic," the scout had no idea the production crew was filming Cincinnati's sidelines.
The production crew began filming the New England scout from their assigned seats in the press box, before he began moving around to try and deflect the fact that cameras were following him.
After taking camera shots from above the scout's shoulder, the crew stationed their equipment at another location in the box. The scout had no idea the crew was filming B-roll of the field due to the angle of the camera. However, the cameras were attached to a monitor, so anyone in the crew's vicinity could see what was being filmed, which technically was not legal.
As it turns out, a Bengals employee filmed the monitor to report to team security.
The Patriots scout didn't see the production crew until the two minute warning of the first half, due to the fact they were being interviewed by Bengals security about what they were filming.
This latest report from Howe supports Belichick's claims regarding the incident. Now, it remains to be seen what form of punishment, if any, the organization receives.
