New York Daily News Has Perfect Sunday Front Page After Yankees' ALCS Loss to Astros
By Sean Facey
The Yankees' season ended in the most heartbreaking fashion possible on Saturday when Jose Altuve and the Astros walked them off to win the ALCS in six games. It was especially brutal considering they had just tied it in the top of the ninth thanks to DJ LeMahieu's clutch two-run home run.
It was a nightmarish ending for New York. And in the eloquent words of the New York Daily News' Sunday front page, it feels like "Hell-Tuve."
It's a shame that 2019 had to end so suddenly for New York. They had persevered through so much throughout the season. They overcame a record-setting amount of injuries to win 103 games.
It really did feel like a season of destiny for the Yankees right up until the bitter end. They just ran into the juggernaut that is the Houston Astros and, despite their best efforts, they just couldn't quite push past them.
Altuve's ninth-inning blast wiped away any chance at a storybook ending for this team. While they're sure to be right in the thick of the World Series race next season and for years to come, this was the last chance for CC Sabathia to win it all.
It wasn't supposed to end this way, yet the Yankees and their fans found themselves waking up on Sunday morning still shocked that their team that had overcome so many trials and tribulations is going home.
Losing in the postseason is painful. Losing on a walk-off is agonizing. Combining the two only brings a hellish experience that few losses in sports can compare to.
