As the head coach of the Cleveland Browns, Freddie Kitchens led a team sporting such talents as Baker Mayfield, Odell Beckham Jr., Jarvis Landry, and Myles Garrett to a disappointing 6-10 record and an underwhelming third-place finish in the AFC North. Despite his shortcomings as a head coach, he has previously excelled as a tight ends coach at both the college and NFL levels.

With that in mind, the New York Giants have hired Kitchens to lead their tight ends under new head coach Joe Judge, as first reported by Bruce Feldman.

The G-Men are right to look for some top-quality tight end mentorship, as Evan Engram very much looks the part at the position -- and if he doesn't opt to retire, Jason Witten might even consider joining up now that Jason Garrett is on board as offensive coordinator.

Kitchens and Joe Judge notably spent time together at Mississippi State when the former was tight ends and running back coach and the latter was a graduate assistant.

This is shaping up to be a smart move for the Giants, as it's not every day that a former NFL head coach can be swiped up off the market to coach a position group. Consider this yet more evidence that the G-Men are going to look a whole lot different come 2020.
