The past few days have seen the coronavirus outbreak force the cancellation or suspension of practically every meaningful sports competition and league out there. The sports world has quite literally ground to a screeching halt.
And the cover of Friday's New York Post, which normally features a witty headline about one of the leading stories in sports, instead featured a black background with the simple caption "The Day the Sports World Stopped."

It's absolutely depressing to see.
After the NBA announced its suspension on Wednesday due to the sudden emergence of COVID-19 among players from the Utah Jazz, the rest of the sports world followed suit. The NHL, MLB, and MLS all announced suspensions and delays between Wednesday and Thursday.
Even March Madness, one of the most anticipated tournaments in the United States, was forced to its knees.

- MLB suspended
- NHL suspended
- XFL suspended
- March Madness canceled
- Masters postponed
- MLS suspended 30 days
- Champions League canceled
- SEC, AAC, ACC, Big 10, Pac-12, Big East tournaments canceled
- Premier League suspended
- NFL cancels league meeting
Everything just stopped. There was no slow, wind-down featuring closed-door events or anything of the like. Sports simply ceased. Truly, as the Post said, there were "No More Sports in Town."
The lack of sports is just something that fans will have to adjust to in the coming weeks and months. Though the hope is that things will resume as normal sooner rather than later, public health should always come first, and it could be quite some time before fans get to see their favorite players and teams back in action.
