New York Post's Back Page Features Aaron Boone Going off on Umpire During Yankees-Rays
By Daniel Marcillo
The New York Yankees took three out of four from the Tampa Bay Rays after sweeping their doubleheader Thursday, with the first game of the day starting with plenty of action in just the first couple innings.
Yankees manager Aaron Boone was very unhappy with the strike zone of umpire Brennan Miller, so he stormed out of the dugout to defend his players and was ejected after delivering a wild rant. It even earned him a spot on the back page of one of the city's most read newspapers.
Perfect. This obviously alludes to Boone telling Miller that his guys are "savages in the box."
Brett Gardner and D.J. LeMahieu were just two of the many Yankees who were unhappy with the rookie umpire's calls. Boone felt that he needed to step up and protect his players to prevent one of them from getting thrown out early in the game.
He provided a moment that will not be lost his clubhouse. During the face-to-face argument with Miller, Boone made it clear that his team was not going to let his calls hurt their chances of winning.
Boone's ejection seemed spark a fire for the Yankees. They swept the doubleheader, outscored the Rays 9-1 after his ejection, and now hold an eight-game lead in the AL East.
