Yankees Will Donate $1 Million to Stadium Staff Affected by Coronavirus Shutdowns

The economic impacts of coronavirus-related shutdowns are wide-ranging around the world. In a sports context here in the United States, stadium workers with hourly or seasonal contracts are losing out on income they depend on to survive thanks to widespread shutdowns and postponements sporting events all over.
The New York Yankees and the rest of Major League Baseball are doing a good thing here, as each team will donate $1 million to pay stadium workers who are unable to earn a living because of the COVID-19 outbreak.

This is a great gesture by the Yankees and the rest of MLB clubs to help out those who are integral to the fan experience at every single game during the season. The hope is that the teams will continue to help those out in need beyond the creation of these funds, of course, as the current delay could last longer than first expected.
For now, however, this is a much-needed development amid all the craziness of these days of the coronavirus.

The Yankees are worth several billion dollars. Gathering up $1 million to help out staffers with no livelihood is really a drop in the bucket, and will hopefully lead to a sustained giving spirit for many months to come.
