New York Yankees Re-Sign Fan Favorite Adam Warren to Minor-League Deal
By Adam Weinrib

While Bronx Bombers fans eagerly await whatever roster moves need to precede Gerrit Cole's official introductory press conference, Brian Cashman has some heartwarming news for the hungry sharks.
Adam Warren, traded midway through the 2018 season for international money, some of which went towards signing Jasson Dominguez, will be returning to New York on an incentive-laden minor-league deal.
Free-agent right-hander Adam Warren to #Yankees on minor-league deal, source tells The Athletic. Salary of $800K in majors plus $100K each for 30, 35, 40, 45, 50, 55 and 60 appearances. If not on 26-man roster on Aug. 28, may be released for spot on another club’s 26-man roster.

Warren is an invaluable swingman when healthy, and simply put, it's clear the Yankees really, really like having him whenever they can.
The UNC Tar Heels righty came up through New York's system, breaking out in 2015 by starting a career-high 17 games and posting a 3.29 ERA. He was dealt prior to the 2016 season in exchange for Starlin Castro, but found himself tacked onto the Aroldis Chapman trade return later that summer, and cast his Chi-Town struggles aside immediately (5.91 ERA before, 3.26 after).
At this point, it's more than a coincidence.

With Yankees 3.18
With Anyone Else 5.17 https://t.co/l7D7q6DKxb
This is the second time Warren has found his way back home, and we're sure he's hoping it sticks. After all, his career's highlights (besides receiving a ring for '16, of course), have all come courtesy of the Bronx.
Unfortunately, Warren won't be in action in 2020, in all likelihood; he just had Tommy John surgery back in September.
Love how Adam Warren’s deal with the Yankees includes an invite to spring training. He just had Tommy John surgery in September but it’s always nice to get invited to things. Good negotiating.

The Yankees do control his rights in 2021, too, however. We'll patiently wait until then.
