It remains to be seen if college football's 2020 season will start on time amid the coronavirus crisis. The longer the pandemic plays out, the more likely it is that the upcoming campaign could be suspended longer than we could have imagined.

Just a few weeks ago, Dr. Carlos Del Rio proclaimed that a return of college sports this year won't be possible without an approved vaccine and/or the implementation of strict protocols. The NCAA is in a much different position than the NFL because of the presence of students and the need for them to return to campus if collegiate sports were to return.

This could see the NFL further assert its dominance in the world of American sports. Per the New York Post, the league is considering holding games on Saturday if the CFB season is delayed.

This does NOT mean there will be a 50/50 split between Saturday and Sunday. Most games would take place on Sunday, and the primetime slots of Monday and Thursday night's would remain intact.

The NFL is merely discussing a scenario that would see a few games scheduled on Saturday, which would go a long way in expanding its product. With no college football, you can only imagine the ratings the league would accumulate.

It's been determined that the NFL's schedule will be released by May 9, so nothing will become official just yet. However, if the league is granted flexibility in terms of tinkering its schedule down the road, we could very well see NFL fixtures become an all-weekend ordeal.

It would certainly take away from the holiday that is NFL Sunday, but football fans will undoubtedly eat this up if there's no college football to watch.

This is highly dependent on the NCAA postponing the entire 2020 season, so stay tuned for updates on that front.
