New CBA Could Make It Harder For The Cowboys to Bring Back Dak Prescott

The newest NFL collective bargaining agreement, ratified recently by the players in a very close vote, has given Jerry Jones and the Dallas Cowboys yet another obstacle in their quest to re-sign both quarterback Dak Prescott and wide receiver Amari Cooper.

One of the stipulations in the CBA that could prevent the Cowboys from bringing back both Prescott and Cooper on extensions states that a team cannot use the franchise tag and transition tag in the same season. This could force the Cowboys to use their franchise tag on Prescott should they fail to agree on a multi-year deal.

With the franchise tag deadline approaching and the Cowboys reportdely not especially close to a deal with these two stars, negotiations could get awfully tense in the days to come.

Both players had career years in 2019 under new offensive coordinator Kellen Moore, so they're naturally going to ask for the world and then some when it comes to a new contract. The most likely scenario for Dallas is to tag Prescott and sign Cooper to a proper extension, though it's still possible Cowboys might not be able to acquiesce to the full extent of the wideout's demands.

We're likely to get more clarity on the Prescott and Cooper negotiations soon, but the ratifications of the new CBA and their "one tag per team" stipulation could make it almost impossible for Dallas to give both of these stars the contracts they deserve.
