NFL.com's 2016 Redraft is Hot Garbage and Disrespects Ezekiel Elliott on So Many Levels
By Mark Powell
Sure, messing up your NFL Draft selection the first time around is a forgivable offense. In some sense, it's a crapshoot, especially in the later rounds when GMs are forced to choose between prospects with middling draft grades.
Yet, NFL.com was given a second chance to get the 2016 NFL Draft right. In what should've been a refreshing change of pace, the League's own flagship website produced a list of players and picks emblematic of hot garbage.
The most glaring issue is the outright disrespect to Cowboys RB Ezekiel Elliott, who's been as productive as humanly possible in his four NFL seasons. While the running back position is rightly devalued given the presence of pass-happy offenses in today's game, Zeke is about the only rusher who defies such logic. Not placing him in the top-10 -- where he belongs -- is an insult to every NFL fan's football intelligence.
Past the prime point, Jared Goff should not be the second quarterback taken, and there's a solid argument he isn't worthy of a top-10 pick to begin with. Goff's skill-set molds well with Sean McVay, and we appreciate what the Rams have accomplished in a short period of time. Place the Cal product in Doug Pederson's Eagles offense, or (at the time) Jason Garrett's Cowboys scheme, and there's no guarantee he replicates this level of success. In fact, many would assume the opposite.
Don't even get me started on Michael Thomas.
There is more, but we're limited on time. The masses will take care of the rest, virtual torches in hand.
