NFL Exec Shuts Down Bizarre Dak Prescott-Jets Question by Saying Sam Darnold Has More Potential
By Scott Rogust
The NFL is prepared to undergo a massive overhaul at the start of the new league year next month. One of the big name players that could be on the move is Tom Brady.
Hall of Fame receiver Michael Irvin stirred the pot by saying he's heard from "significant people" that the Dallas Cowboys would make a run for Brady. Although it's a highly implausible situation, questions arose as to where Dak Prescott would end up if Brady were to don the famous Cowboys star on his helmet.
You can rule out the New York Jets, according to former NFL executive Marc Ross, who said that quarterback Sam Darnold has much higher potential than Prescott.
"I think Sam just has more natural playmaking ability than Dak,” Ross said, via Sports Illustrated.
“Maybe not as consistent right now but Dak, to me, is if you need to go win a game, he’s not that caliber quarterback where Sam Darnold has shown flashes of that. And I believe still has potential to be that guy.”
We must preface by saying that this is completely a non-rumor. There is no smoke surrounding the Jets ever having interest in Prescott's services. Darnold is obviously the guy in New York, no questions asked.
The former New York Giants' vice president of player evaluation stressed that Darnold has a very high ceiling to potentially become a top quarterback in the league. That was the very same mindset that many football experts had once Darnold entered the NFL Draft process out of South California in 2018.
Darnold is going through his growing pains as a young signal caller, and it doesn't help the Jets have one of the worst offensive lines in the league. Given the front office addresses that need and provides him with more complementary weapons, the sky's the limit for Darnold.
