NFL Front Offices Are Getting Ultimate Revenge on Josh McDaniels and it's So Freaking Petty
By Mark Powell
Josh McDaniels had his chance at a head coaching gig -- multiple, in fact -- but flamed out with the Denver Broncos, and then infamously backed out of leading the Indianapolis Colts for reasons that were never really made public to any of us outside Foxborough.
McDaniels' decision to leave the Colts hanging after committing to the opportunity was not received well by NFL front offices, and now it seems he's getting a hilarious taste of his own medicine.
First, the Carolina Panthers hired Matt Rhule just days before they were scheduled to interview McDaniels. Nonetheless, that's a fair predicament, as Rhule blew Dave Tepper away during the interview process, so much so that the Panthers owner gave the then-Baylor coach an unprecedented offer to lead Carolina's franchise.
Next, however, the New York Giants opted to hire Patriots special teams coordinator Joe Judge just before speaking with McDaniels. The sting is very real in this case, as Judge and McDaniels were on the same staff in New England.
What goes around, comes around.
While McDaniels is still in the running for the Browns vacancy, he might not be the best fit.
The Patriots OC isn't exactly known for his ways as a disciplinarian, meaning there's a good chance he goes 0-for-3 as a candidate many considered to be the top assistant available at the outset of the offseason.
Let's hope he at least gets to the interview in Cleveland.
