NFL Personnel Reportedly Linking Dolphins to Justin Herbert Over Tua Tagovailoa
By Michael Luciano
Virtually nothing is guaranteed in this year's quarterback class at the NFL Draft, with the exception of Joe Burrow going No. 1 to the Bengals. After that, there are a handful of names who wouldn't be all too surprising to be selected as the draft's QB2.
With Burrow almost a lock to go No. 1 to the Cincinnati Bengals, the Miami Dolphins, owners of three first round picks including the No. 5 overall selection are also expected to be interested in drafting a QB. Recent reports suggest they Dolphins might have their eyes set on Oregon standout Justin Herbert with the fifth overall pick, rather than pursue Tua Tagovailoa, who is coming off of a serious hip injury.
Herbert completed 67% of his passes last year while throwing for 32 touchdowns against six interceptions as he led the Ducks to a Rose Bowl victory.
Herbert was the tallest quarterback prospect in Indianapolis at a shade over 6-6, while Tagovailoa was the shortest at an even 6-feet. What Herbert lacks in leadership and vocality, he makes up for with arm strength, accuracy and impressive measurables.
There's a chance the decision will be made for the Dolphins before it's even their time to pick, given the possibility of Tagovailoa getting selected third overall by the Lions. Should that occur, it seems Miami would be content with the idea of selecting Herbert at No. 5.
