3 NFL Players Who Will Absolutely Take the WWE 24/7 Title from Gronk
By Scott Rogust
Just a couple of weeks ago, Rob Gronkowski won the WWE 24/7 Championship at WrestleMania. On Tuesday, Gronk revealed he's coming out of retirement to join former teammate Tom Brady on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. While he reveled in his announcement, WWE released a statement to announce that as champion, he still must continue to defend his belt on a 24/7 basis -- even on an NFL field.
That got us thinking: which NFL player would be most likely to defeat Gronkowski for the championship, assuming such a thing is possible at all? After extended consideration, these three individuals make the most sense.
3. Travis Kelce
Once Gronk retired from football a year ago, Travis Kelce of the Kansas City Chiefs took his spot as the league's most charismatic tight end. The man simply knows how to cut promo, as evidenced by his interview with CBS' Jim Nantz following January's AFC Championship win over the Tennessee Titans. Hell, Kelce did the same thing while wearing a WWE championship belt at the team's Super Bowl parade in Kansas City! The Chiefs and Buccaneers are slated to face off in 2020, so don't be surprised if Kelce rolls up Gronkowski during pre-game workouts and makes sure there's a referee nearby to start the pin count.
2. George Kittle
Another tight end makes this list, and it's perhaps the NFL's biggest wrestling fan: George Kittle of the San Francisco 49ers. Kittle uses the "cero miedo" taunt made famous by All Elite Wrestling's Pentagon Jr. for his first down celebrations, and even rushed out of a post-game press conference two years ago in order to rush to a WWE pay-per-view event... while wearing a Stone Cold Steve Austin t-shirt. Kittle hasn't made an in-ring impact with the WWE just yet, but he can get an early start by pinning Gronkowski for a 1-2-3.
1. Tom Brady
Yes, we're going full chaos mode on this list. If you've watched wrestling, you know that even the closest of friends can eventually turn on each other to obtain championship gold. Perhaps there's nobody that cares more about success than Tom Brady, and he'd do anything to earn it. Hence, we believe it's only a matter of time until TB12 himself hits Gronkowski in the back with a steel chair to win the 24/7 title. Admit it -- you want this to happen. You can't have a wrestling title change hands without a heel turn.
