3 NFL Teams That Should Use Oklahoma Blowout Loss as Means to Hire Lincoln Riley
By Mark Powell
The Oklahoma Sooners were blown out at the hands of the LSU Tigers in an embarrassing result that, right or wrong, is being blamed primarily on Lincoln Riley. Despite the ugly result, Riley remains one of the most coveted coaches on the NFL market should he be interested. While Riley has said all the right things up until now, a bad defeat paired with some undeserved blame by the fanbase would upset even the most stable of football minds. These NFL teams should try and pry him away while they have the chance.
3. Washington Redskins
This might be a pipe dream for the Redskins, but given they already have a head coaching opening ahead of Week 17, it gives them the advantage of time. Why not make a call on Sunday, before most teams even have a vacancy? If Riley is willing to listen, they'll get the first offer in.
2. Cleveland Browns
Riley's name is frequently brought up in Cleveland in part due to the big names on the roster, and the respect Jimmy Haslam has for his offensive mind. If Cleveland is, in fact, ready to move on from Freddie Kitchens, Riley should be their first call.
1. Dallas Cowboys
I mean...duh. The Dallas Cowboys are due to fire Jason Garrett shortly after their Week 17 game against the Washington Redskins, especially if they miss the playoffs. Jerry Jones wants to land a big name, and Riley would be the first on his list, especially with his popularity in the southwest.
