Quarterback-head coach relationships in college football don't get more complicated than this one. At the 2020 Senior Bowl on Wednesday, quarterback Jalen Hurts met up with his old coach Nick Saban for a photo-op before the game.

It was the first reunion between the two since Hurts transferred out of Saban's program at Alabama last year after losing the starting job to Tua Tagovailoa. Hurts played his final season for Lincoln Riley at Oklahoma in 2019.
While Hurts did not get to finish his college career with Saban, he made history at Alabama under the GOAT's leadership as a freshman in 2016. Hurts became the first true-freshman to start at quarterback for Alabama during Saban's tenure, and went on to achieve equally historic results.
Breaking the program's total touchdown record, single-season rushing record by a quarterback and becoming the first QB to throw for 300 yards and rush for 100 in a single game all lent itself to a truly memorable season for Hurts and Saban in 2016. But all it was good for was a 35-31 College Football Playoff National Championship loss to Deshawn Watson and the Clemson Tigers.
The next year, Hurts was benched at halftime of the National Championship for Tagovailoa. Tua would go on to lead a 26-23 overtime comeback victory over Georgia, essentially signaling Hurts' departure from the program.
Tagovailoa would ultimately win the starting job for the Crimson Tide in 2018, but Saban and Hurts would get one more shining moment in that year's SEC Championship game against the Bulldogs. That time, it was Hurts coming into relieve Tagovailoa, leading Alabama to a comeback victory of his own.
That SEC Championship game was the last moment Hurts and Saban had together ... until Wednesday. Hurts got to exchange a brief yet endearing moment with his former coach, even representing both Oklahoma and Alabama at the Senior Bowl with a unique helmet.
