Nickell Robey-Coleman's Contract With Eagles is a Steal
By Michael Luciano
The Philadelphia Eagles went shopping in the thrift store to add some more contributors in the secondary, and they found a rock solid veteran in former Los Angeles Rams cornerback Nickell Robey-Coleman.
Rather than demanding a big multi-year contract, Robey-Coleman signed for a discount, agreeing to a deal worth just $1 million guaranteed that can scale up to $1.3 million.
Talk about some beautiful business from Howie Roseman.
After four years with the Buffalo Bills, Robey-Coleman spent his last three seasons with the Los Angeles Rams, serving as the starting nickel corner on a Rams team that made it to the Super Bowl in 2018.
His stats and coverage skills that made him a top 20 corner in PFF's eyes are all well and good, but the former USC star is best known for his controversial pass interference in the NFC Championship vs the Saints that went uncalled, helping the Rams secure a birth in the Super Bowl.
Hopefully his memories in Philadelphia are less infamous than this one.
The Eagles' need in the secondary wasn't totally filled by the addition of Darius Slay via trade. Robey-Coleman's involvement in one of the biggest blown calls in NFL history has overshadowed the fact that he is one of the best slot cornerbacks in the game. Grabbing him for only $1.3 million shows that Roseman is a cut above most GMs, or that Robey-Coleman has the worst agent in history.
