VIDEO: New Nike 'Comeback' Ad Narrated by LeBron James Fails to Mention Red Sox 2004 ALCS Triumph
By Scott Rogust
After a brutal two-month pause, live sports are slowly but surely returning to our television screens. As we inch closer, Nike decided to hype up all sports fans this Memorial Day weekend by releasing an ad about "the comeback." The clip is narrated by Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James, and the commercial includes some of the best comeback victories in sports history -- from the Cleveland Cavaliers overcoming a 3-1 series deficit against the Golden State Warriors in the 2016 NBA Finals, to the New England Patriots Super Bowl LI victory over the Atlanta Falcons. But we can't help but point out that Nike completely left out the Boston Red Sox's 2004 ALCS comeback against the New York Yankees.
You hate to see it.
It's quite hilarious that the Red Sox would be completely ignored in this piece. But let's not forget one thing: James is a Yankees fan. Do you really think he'd allow that in Nike's commercial with all the influence he has within the company? No way.
Yes, the Red Sox did the unthinkable by coming back from a 3-0 series deficit to defeat the Bronx Bombers and go on to win their first World Series title since 1918. But we tell those spoiled fans up in Boston that the commercial already features the Patriots, so your city's quota has already been met!
Relax Red Sox fans, it's just a commercial...that you weren't included in.
