49ers DC Robert Saleh Taking Shot at Seahawks Over Marshawn Lynch Reunion is a Joke
By Jerry Trotta
It was captivating at first, but the sheer smugness of San Francisco 49ers defensive coordinator Robert Saleh is growing painfully stale.
That narrative unsurprisingly continued ahead of Week 17, but this time, the assistant coach took a brazen shot at the Seattle Seahawks' signing of Marshawn Lynch following injuries to tailbacks Rashaad Penny, Chris Carson and CJ Prosise.
That is a joke, folks. For starters, Saleh's comments hold no value based on the fact that Lynch was arguably the best unsigned running back available. The market for tailbacks right now is barren; he's every bit of a Christmas gift for the Hawks.
And yes, Seattle certainly needed an "emotional boost." They've lost three backs to season-ending injuries in the last two weeks alone, all with the postseason right around the corner.
One Lynch stan was QUICK (and right) to roast Saleh on Twitter.
Let's hope that stiff arm is a sign of things to come on Sunday night.
What makes Saleh's never-ending shtick all the more bothersome is the fact that his defensive unit has been woeful of late. San Fran has surrendered a whopping 123 points in their last four games; that's good for an average of 30.75 points. They may still be NFC West leaders, but that kind of clip won't cut it come playoff time.
Saleh simply has no leg to stand on in slighting the transactions of other franchises, regardless of the 49ers' and Seahawks' upcoming showdown this weekend.
