NL MVP Race Power Rankings for Week of Sept. 3

The NL MVP race is coming down to the wire with just a month left in the MLB regular season. Cody Bellinger and Christian Yelich have been a cut above the rest all season long, but we can't forget about other stars in the conversation putting together incredible campaigns. Ahead of the stretch run, let's identify the top 10 contenders.

10. Jacob deGrom, New York Mets

Jacob deGrom may not be putting up the Hall of Fame numbers he had last season, but he has been dominant once again. After a rough April, the Mets ace systematically put himself back in Cy Young contention as well. He has a 2.66 ERA and 214 strikeouts in 169 innings pitched.

9. Trevor Story, Colorado Rockies

Colorado's Trevor Story is showing why he is one of the best shortstops in all of baseball this season. Playing at Coors Field doesn't hurt, but he still has above-average numbers away from the Mile High City to boot. He's hitting .298 with 30 home runs and 78 RBIs along with a 5.8 WAR overall.

8. Pete Alonso, New York Mets

The Mets first baseman is having what might be one of the best rookie seasons of all time. He is hitting .266 with 43 home runs and 102 RBIs along with a home run derby victory this season. He will definitely be the NL Rookie of the Year -- that's far beyond doubt -- but has a lot of work still to do to win the MVP given that his team is noticeably outside the playoff picture.

7. Nolan Arenado, Colorado Rockies

Nolan Arenado is once again putting together another terrific season with his bat and glove alike. He has 36 home runs and 107 RBIs to go along with a .311 batting average on the year, and is in line for his sixth straight Gold Glove on the hot corner for the Rockies. Don't be surprised if he cracks the top three for the MVP at season's end.

6. Josh Bell, Pittsburgh Pirates

Josh Bell has cooled off during the second half, but has still put together an amazing season. The Pirates slugger has 35 home runs, 110 RBIs and a .579 slugging percentage. Despite being on a bad team, he still deserves a lot of consideration for the MVP, but his down performance since the All-Star break hurts his chances of taking home the award.

5. Freddie Freeman, Atlanta Braves

Freddie Freeman has grown into a prime of example of what a consistent star player looks like in this league. He hasn't missed a game this year, and leads all of baseball with 114 RBIs. He also has 38 home runs and is once again the single biggest threat in a highly dangerous Braves lineup. The first baseman has been so good in his career that years like this have simply become what we expect out of him.

4. Ketel Marte, Arizona Diamondbacks

Talk about bursting onto the scene with a splash. Ketel Marte wasn't widely backed to become a superstar, but he's exploded this year for the Diamondbacks. He leads the NL in his and is batting .321 on the season. His 29 home runs and 81 RBIs both come as a surprise, as each mark is far beyond his previous career highs.

3. Anthony Rendon, Washington Nationals

Anthony Rendon is true model of consistency, but his production this year has to rank as a career best. He is hitting .337 with 32 home runs and 111 RBIs, numbers that would make him an MVP favorite and potential Triple Crown contender in a lot of seasons.

2. Cody Bellinger, Los Angeles Dodgers

After a red-hot April, Cody Bellinger did cool off a bit, but the power is still amazing. The Dodgers star leads the NL with 44 home runs packaged up with a .311 average and 103 RBIs. He has also played multiple positions throughout the year, but the dingers are what truly help him keep pace with the league's No. 1 guy.

1. Christian Yelich, Milwaukee

The man himself. Christian Yelich is putting together another unstoppable year in Milwaukee, hitting .323 with 43 home runs and 92 RBIs. Yelich leads the NL in on-base percentage, slugging percentage, and OPS. He is the only man in all of baseball right now who can honestly give Mike Trout a run for his money in the conversation for best player in the game. Expect him to take home his second straight MVP award this year.
