NL Scout's Trash Take on Noah Syndergaard Tommy John Surgery Deserves to Be Ripped
By Adam Weinrib
Mets flamethrower Noah Syndergaard has gone under the knife and will miss the 2020 season, in whatever form it takes. Naturally, this is a time for well-wishes and sympathies across the game -- Thor, the dominant force that he is when healthy, will only come back stronger.
Some in the game, however, seem to believe it's the proper time for "I Told You So's".
An anonymous NL scout hit up the Mets' New York Post beat writer just to toot his own horn in the wake of the surgery news, and we're not really sure why.
Alright, great take, man. You always knew this was coming, didn't you? Very bold claim, considering the rash of Tommy John surgeries for all pitchers across the game of baseball, no matter their shape and style.
Predicting a pitcher will someday need to undergo the devastating surgery is like predicting a home run on every pitch. You're going to be right several times over, and you don't get credit, based on the proliferation of the event in the modern game.
Also, you think the Mets made a mistake funneling resources into Syndergaard just because of this moment? I'm sure they're thankful for his 2015 World Series Game 3 win, as well as his 2.29 FIP in 2016 and exemplary career.
The Mets will welcome Syndergaard back with open arms when he's healthy, and this anonymous NL Scout will go back to predicting doom for every high-velocity hurler. Hope he feels real satisfied right now.
