The Mets playoff hopes are fading quickly, and a loss to the Chicago Cubs on Wednesday night at Citi Field certainly did the Queens side no favors.

With Noah Syndergaard on the mound--a pitcher the Mets willingly decided to hold onto at the trade deadline--New York hoped to get back to their winning ways and end a brief four-game skid. In the heat of a Wild Card race, Syndergaard was anything but reliable, giving up 10 runs to Chicago and all but eliminating the Mets chances against the North Siders.

After the game, Thor was frank about how he felt he let the team down, and failed to take advantage of a critical opportunity.

"They capitalized on every mistake that I made and it just seemed like tonight, when it rains it pours," Syndergaard told reporters. "When you get (your) shit kicked in like that, it gives you a different perspective on things. Definitely a terrible feeling, just disappointed in myself. I had the opportunity to go out there and do something big tonight and I let the team down."

With the loss, the Mets are now four games back in the Wild Card standings, behind the likes of Milwaukee, Philadelphia and the pesky Cubs for the second spot.
