The New York Mets have already been busy on the trade front, acquiring Marcus Stroman from Toronto and sending Jason Vargas to Philadelphia. Could they be on the verge of doing something even bigger?

Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic has reported that veteran right-handed starter Ervin Santana has been scratched from his scheduled Triple-A start Tuesday, and even though Noah Syndergaard is scheduled to start for the Mets later in the day, there's a chance it could be linked.

Santana being scratched could have nothing to do with Syndergaard being traded, but it comes at a rather interesting time that seems awfully coincidental.

New York seems more apt to trade right-hander Zack Wheeler at this point in time over Syndergaard at the trade deadline, but with the Mets, who knows what's going on.

Santana, 36, has made only three starts in the big leagues this year for the Chicago White Sox, posting a 9.45 ERA over 13.1 innings of work. He was let go and the Mets picked him up, where's he's been stashed at Triple-A, owning a 4.20 ERA over 11 starts.
