Someone Needs to Free Nolan Arenado After Rockies' Reckless Use of Star in Spring Training Game
By Sean Facey

Spring Training is a time for players to get some low-stress reps in, especially in the early games. It's a time for the stars, prospects and grinders alike to each get a few innings of work per game. As far as the best players are concerned, the obvious intention is to not overwork them and risk injury.
The Colorado Rockies seem to have missed the memo on that one, though.
In the seventh inning of a 14-0 thrashing at the hands of the Los Angeles Dodgers, the Rockies decided to keep star third baseman Nolan Arenado in the game, because of course they did.
It is the bottom of the 7th at Salt River Field, the Rockies are losing 14-0. And Nolan Arenado is still in the game. I'm not sure what to make of this.

Relations between Arenado and the Rockies have been fractured all offseason, and this certainly isn't going to help them get back on good terms.
Someone needs to save this man from the circus that is the Colorado Rockies before it's too late.
There's no reason for him to be playing so late in such an utterly meaningless game. He's a star through and through. Missing out on a plate appearance or two against minor leaguers isn't going to hurt him as a player.
“When I was younger my dad used to always say ‘you’re playing for 30 teams, 30 teams are watching.’ And now I’m going out there and 29 teams are watching and it’s actually a good feeling.”

The only thing that might hurt him is playing him right to the bitter end of a blowout.
If he does end up sustaining an injury late into a spring game this year, the Rockies will have nobody to blame but themselves.
