Numbers Prove David Price Has More Bad Starts Against Yankees Than All Other Teams Combined
By Scott Rogust
The Boston Red Sox needed David Price to pitch at an elite level on Sunday night, as they looked to avoid a four-game sweep at the hands of the AL East rival New York Yankees.
Unfortunately for Boston, that didn't happen.
In 2.2 innings of work, Price surrendered seven earned runs on nine hits (two on home runs), while only striking out three batters. Six of those earned runs came in the third inning.
To say the Yankees have had Price's number throughout his career is a massive understatement. Price has allowed seven-plus earned runs in more starts against the Yankees than any other team combined.
Yankee Stadium has long been an uncomfortable spot for Price (he did allow Derek Jeter's 3,000th hit, after all), but since coming to Boston, it's morphed into an actual house of horrors.
In eight starts at Yankee Stadium as a member of the Sox, Price has an 9.61 ERA, allowing 67 hits and 16 home runs.
The Red Sox are paying Price a hefty sum per year to do the exact opposite of this, and many believed the 2018 season had allowed him to shake off the sum total of his demons.
Not so.
Sunday was just the latest nightmare that Price has suffered at the bats of the Bronx Bombers, a trend that has yet to be eliminated.
