Odds for Next Cowboys Head Coach Include Some Absolutely Bonkers Names
Jason Garrett's days as the head coach of the Cowboys appear to be numbered. An embarrassing loss to the Bills Thursday night dropped Dallas to 6-6, and it was reported than some players were subjected to a screaming match in the locker room immediately following the game, led by Michael Bennett.
Of course, Jerry Jones has no intention of dismissing Garrett before season's end, but...how could he possibly come back next year, at this point? Following this sequence of events, Vegas has released updated odds for the next coach of the team, and there are some very strange names on the list, once you get deep enough.
While the front-runners are some of the hottest names on the coaching circuit, including Patriots OC Josh McDaniels (a former head coach himself), Urban Meyer, and Lincoln Riley (long linked to this gig), there are some downright hilarious darkhorse candidates (with pretty decent odds, so I might have to check out Bovada later).
Of these long shots, the ones that stand out the most are Tony Romo (perhaps the GOAT of NFL commentating), Troy Aikman (the second-best former Cowboy QB in the broadcasting community), Jimmy Johnson (he must be 100 by now), and Barry Switzer (did not realize he was still lucid). Likewise, names like Chip Kelly, Lane Kiffin, and Sean McVay are likely to elicit chuckles from more than a few insiders and fans.
While it's always fun to tease the Cowboys and their fanbase about the state of the team, the writing is on the wall. A change is needed if this team hopes to win another Super Bowl anytime soon.
It has been reported that Garrett will at least be allowed to finish out this season, but it is hard to envision him as a member of this organization next season. If anybody needs to make some cash on the side, I've heard that Terrell Owens will be looking for someone to help him with his resume.
