Official List of Cubs' September Call-Ups Revealed
By Parker White
MLB rosters officially expanded on Sept. 1, and the Chicago Cubs are taking full advantage of the additional roster spots by calling quite a few players. Seven to be exact.
Veteran infielder Daniel Descalso was activated off the 10-day injured list, while the other six are coming up from Triple-A Iowa. Those players include outfielder Albert Almora Jr., utility man Robel Garcia, right-handed pitchers Alec Mills and Duane Underwood Jr, left-handed pitcher Brad Wieck and catcher Taylor Davis.
On top of these guys returning to the big leagues, veteran utility man Ben Zobrist has been activated and is available to play after missing most of the season while dealing with a divorce.
Of the players getting called up, Almora Jr. is the most recognizable, as he was on Chicago's Opening Day roster. However, despite his immaculate defense, Almora struggled at the dish and hit .243 with 12 home runs over 114 games. It didn't get much better at Triple-A, as he hit just .224 with three doubles over 13 games.
Wieck is the only among the group who has yet to spend time with the Cubs, as he was acquired at the trade deadline in the Carl Edwards Jr. deal with the San Diego Padres. However, ever since joining the organization, he owns a 1.59 ERA in six relief appearances at Triple-A, so expect him to see plenty of action in Chicago.
