Ohio State WR and Captain CJ Saunders Arrested for Breaking Curfew After Columbus Protest
Protests are continuing to take place all across the country and around the world this week, and curfews have been put in place in many major cities as a result. Simply being outside during the curfew can result in an arrest, and that's exactly what happened to Ohio State receiver and team captain CJ Saunders on Monday night.
He was out past curfew in Columbus near the Ohio State campus, and he paid for it with a booking at Franklin County Jail.
Saunders is a former walk-on who rose up to a captaincy in 2019. He has already graduated from the university and is seeking another year of eligibility. Being around for so long and earning a scholarship through hard work and leadership has made him a key voice on the team, and his arrest may very well inspire his teammates and other Buckeye supporters in solidarity as part of the ongoing national discussion about police brutality and racial justice.
Saunders also showed up in a video shared by the team regarding the killing of George Floyd by a Minneapolis police officer.
Saunders may not be a prominent name in college football circles the country, but his actions this week speak volumes about his character. It should also earn him plenty of respect if he is indeed allowed to come back to school this fall for one more year with the team.
