Oklahoma Sends Message to Alabama After Landing Nation's Top-Ranked JUCO DT
By Zack Jiang
The Oklahoma football team has been dominant the past two years under head coach Lincoln Riley. With a combined record of 24-4 and two consecutive playoff appearances, the school is looking to be a consistent top dog like Alabama.
Although Oklahoma has yet to reach the championship the past two campaigns, they are still continuing to improve. Their newest addition is top-ranked JUCO defensive tackle Perrion Winfrey, who has committed to the school for the 2020 class. He also had an offer from Alabama. Take that, Nick Saban:
Coming from Iowa Western Community College, Winfrey is an athletic defensive lineman standing at 6-4, while packing a 305-pound frame. He is aggressive in attacking the offense and should be a valuable rotational player right off the bat.
With more recruits coming to Oklahoma, the team will be looking to clear their playoff obstacle. While the Sooners have produced back-to-back Heisman Trophy winners and No. 1 overall picks in the NFL draft, they haven't been able to make it to the title game. However, with Riley leading the team, a championship appearance should be on the horizon.
Alabama is a championship contender year in and year out. However, they may soon have another competitor in Oklahoma who'll be right there by their side every single year. And if OU can continue to beat out Bama for top recruits, it will only make like more complicated for Saban and Co.
