3 Oklahoma Sooners Most to Blame for Complete Demolition at Hands of LSU
By Mark Powell
The Oklahoma Sooners were no test for the LSU Tigers on Saturday, with Ed Orgeron's group demolishing Lincoln Riley and Co. by a final score of 63-28. Sooners fans were rightfully checked out after the first half, in which Oklahoma gave up 49 points to the best offense in college football.
With that in mind, who's to blame?
3. Alex Grinch
Grinch's defense looked much-improved all season, but in their most important game, they came up well short. This includes undisciplined penalties, including a targeting call on Brendan Radley-Hiles in the first half which led to yet another Joe Burrow touchdown. Oklahoma didn't look prepared, period.
2. Jalen Hurts
We hate to put any of this on Hurts, who's been a true professional while playing a game supposedly meant for amateurs. Yet, how many times can this guy come up short against the best defenses in college football? He had a chance to flip the script against LSU with even a modest showing. He failed to deliver.
1. Lincoln Riley
Lincoln Riley has turned Oklahoma football into a powerhouse, but at the same time is now 0-3 in the College Football Playoff, including two losses with Heisman Trophy winners at the helm. He can no longer plead ignorance, as Riley is an established CFP veteran. He hasn't been good enough.
