Old Friends Francisco Lindor and Yankees' Gio Urshela Spotted Hanging Out as Trade Rumors Swirl
By Scott Rogust
In the opening weeks of the MLB offseason, there's been a lack of huge transactions. Hence, rumors begin to overtake reality.
Perhaps one of the biggest stories to make the rounds in the baseball world is the Cleveland Indians' potential shopping of star shortstop Francisco Lindor. One of the teams linked to acquiring his services is, of course, the New York Yankees.
Their players are mostly out on vacation these days, but you can bet Yankees third baseman Gio Urshela has heard these rumors. After all, he's currently in Colombia, jet skiing with Lindor.
Before Bronx Bombers fans prepare to purchase their customized Francisco Lindor jerseys, let us warn you to pump the brakes.
Before his breakout season in New York in 2019, Urshela was a bench piece for the Indians, and Lindor was his teammate. Of course, they built a strong friendship back in the day.
Lindor is set to make nearly $40 million over his next two arbitration years, the Indians missed out on the postseason in 2019, and their championship window is closing. Trading a talent like Lindor for a package of premier prospects is something that would certainly entice Cleveland's budget-conscious front office.
With the Yankees seemingly allowing shortstop Didi Gregorius to walk in free agency, Lindor is an obvious option for New York. With a rich farm system, the Yankees could have the greatest chance to acquire him.
Until then, Francisco Lindor is still a Cleveland Indian...and an avid jetskier.
