Old Photo Surfaces of Young Daniel Jones Wearing Eli Manning Jersey
By Scott Rogust
Daniel Jones has gone through quite the journey in his first few months in the NFL. After being drafted sixth overall in the NFL Draft by the New York Giants, Jones was mocked and criticized over his own selection. One of the main critiques was that the Giants selected Jones due to perceived connections and similarities to incumbent QB Eli Manning. (For starters, they both had the same college coach, David Cutcliffe.)
After a strong preseason from Jones and a bad 0-2 start to the regular season for the Giants with Manning behind center, head coach Pat Shurmur pulled a trigger that was a long time coming, which was to send Manning to the bench in favor of the rookie.
What makes the decision even more wild is a photo surfacing of a young Jones sporting... yes, an Eli jersey!
Jones replacing Manning makes it even more meant to be.
In his first NFL start, Jones turned his detractors into believers, as he led the Giants to a huge comeback victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers with his arm and athleticism. Jones completed 23-of-36 pass attempts for 336 yards two passing touchdowns, and two rushing scores, one of which being the game-winner.
A fan base who let the world know their disdain of Jones becoming the next franchise quarterback have now become supporters, given the gigantic influx of social media praise and jersey sales in the past couple of days.
While it's only been one game, Daniel Jones is giving New York Giants fans a reason to be excited for the future.
