One Simple Reason Why Terrell Suggs Forcing His Way to Ravens Won't Work
By Jerry Trotta
The Arizona Cardinals made a fairly surprising decision to release veteran linebacker Terrell Suggs on Friday.
That settlement doesn't necessarily mean that Suggs has played his last down of football in 2019, because the seven-time Pro Bowler is eligible to be claimed off waivers late Monday afternoon.
Given his legend status in Baltimore, a plethora of NFL pundits were quick to assume that a Ravens reunion would transpire after the weekend. In fact, Suggs himself is reportedly keen on forcing his way back to the AFC's current No.1 seed.
Unfortunately for Suggs, there is one simple reason that will prevent him from signing with his former club.
For starters, there will be no shortage of contenders looking to claim him given his production: 37 tackles, five sacks, and four forced fumbles. Further, even if teams aren't interested, they will promptly look to claim Suggs just to block his move to Baltimore.
Seriously, why would general managers around the league not conspire to deprive the Ravens, whose defense is elite and only getting better as the season wears on, of the chance to add a future Hall of Famer who is very familiar with their system?
Baltimore buffs may call it contentious, but it's merely elementary executive practice to do whatever it takes to undermine a fellow championship contender.
In this case, it's preventing the Ravens from claiming Suggs on waivers by any means necessary.
