One Surprise Cut the Indianapolis Colts Could Still Make This Offseason
By Michael Luciano
The Indianapolis Colts have done some serious reshuffling this offseason, adding quarterbacks like Philip Rivers and Jacob Eason while getting rid of the likes of second-round disappointment Quincy Wilson.
Another second-rounder might be on the chopping block, too, given the roster tough moves the Colts will eventually be faced with. It wouldn't be surprising if the Colts parted ways with former Ohio State defensive lineman Tyquan Lewis.
Lewis has recorded just 18 tackles in his two seasons as a pro, with his only two sacks coming in the same game against the Dallas Cowboys.
Lewis' versatility has worked against him as a pro, which has left him vacillating between a 1-tech interior lineman and 5-tech pass rusher with little success.
He's in a bit of a lose-lose situation this year. If he stays outside, the likes of Justin Houston, Kemoko Turay, and Ben Banogu will be ahead of him on the depth chart, while he'll be behind star DeForest Buckner, Grover Stewart, Sheldon Day, and 2020 sixth-rounder Robert Windsor if he moves inside full-time.
The Colts knew that Lewis was going to take some time to fully develop, but he has yet to break through any sort of ceiling, as evidenced by the fact he had just five tackles last year and played just 22% of snaps. Lewis shouldn't go into training camp assuming he has a roster spot locked down.
