One Surprise Cut the Minnesota Vikings Could Still Make This Offseason
By Michael Luciano
The Minnesota Vikings wasted no time addressing the wide receiver position after the Stefon Diggs trade. General manager Rick Spielman took two wide receivers in the 2020 NFL Draft while bringing in receiver Tajae Sharpe from the Tennessee Titans.
While most Minnesota fans are counting on a bounce-back year from Sharpe after he signed a one-year deal with Mike Zimmer's squad, the shape of their wide receiver depth chart means that Sharpe might not even be guaranteed a spot on the 53-man roster.
In the best-case scenario, Sharpe will compete for the WR3 spot, as Adam Thielen and Justin Jefferson have the top two spots locked down. Sharpe's competition includes 2019 seventh-rounder Olabisi Johnson, who impressed as a rookie, 2020 fifth-rounder KJ Osborn, and promising youngster Dillon Mitchell, a former Oregon star Minnesota picked in 2019.
Throw in the likes of 2020 UDFAs Quartney Davis and Dan Chisena, both of whom are faster and better athletes than Sharpe, and it becomes clear how the veteran, who disappointed with the Titans, would be easier to part ways with than a promising rookie.
Sharpe has more experience than any of the Vikings' young guns, but that doesn't mean that he's guaranteed to take snaps away from either of them. In fact, they might just push him out of town.
