Orioles Reportedly Could Sign No. 1 Pick Adley Rutschman to Record-Breaking Deal
By Jared Kish
The Baltimore Orioles have provided little to no excitement in recent years for the their fans, as they have been the worst team in baseball. For the O's, however, reinforcements may be on the way after selecting Adley Rutschman No. 1 overall in this year's MLB Draft.
The Oregon State standout could be on his way to singing a record-breaking deal with Baltimore.
According to Jon Heyman, Rutschman's deal is set to reach numbers we haven't seen before. The deal could provide some much needed excitement for the O's faithful.
During his junior year at OSU, Rutschman batted an insane .411 with 17 home runs and 10 doubles. Baseball America, MLB.com, Fangraphs and ESPN all ranked the switch-hitting slugger as the top player to come out of the 2019 draft class.
In the 2018 College World Series, the catcher was named the Most Outstanding Player and helped OSU claim their third national title in the school's history. Rutschman recorded 17 hits and drove in 13 runs throughout that tournament.
Rutschman's deal is reported to break Gerrit Cole's $8 million signing bonus. He'll look to prove he's worth every penny.
