Orioles Reportedly Open to Dealing Andrew Cashner
By Sean Facey
With the trade market for starters beginning to heat up as the MLB trade deadline approaches, the Orioles are reportedly considering shipping out one of their most reliable pitchers.
Baltimore is reportedly open to unloading 10-year veteran Andrew Cashner.
The bearded right-hander has quietly pieced together a solid 2019 campaign. He's posted a modest 3.83 ERA in 16 starts for the Orioles while managing 2.71 walks per nine innings, his lowest walk rate since 2014.
He's performed far better than he did in 2018 when he pitched to the tune of a 5.29 ERA. The O's could now net themselves a decent return if they can find the right trade partner.
Cashner is on the second year of a two-year, $16 million deal, so he won't carry too much of a financial burden, either.
Baltimore could certainly use some more depth on the farm. Even if they only end up acquiring some mid-level prospects, they'd be much better off. Outside of the top pick from the 2019 MLB draft, catcher Adley Rutschman, there's not a whole heck of a lot to look forward to.
Cashner could be end up being one of the first dominoes to fall ahead of the deadline, opening up the floodgates for other starters to get dealt.
