VIDEO: Orioles' Second-Overall Pick Heston Kjerstad Doesn't Totally Know How to Say 'Camden Yards'
By Scott Rogust
The first round of the 2020 MLB Draft featured plenty of shocking decisions, with the first of the night coming from the Baltimore Orioles. Despite Vanderbilt infielder Austin Martin being on the board, the Orioles took a chance on Arkansas' outfielder Heston Kjerstad, whom many called the best left-handed bat in the entire class. As is the case with any draft selection, Kjerstad participated in a short introductory clip on Baltimore's official Twitter account. But during said video, the newest Oriole mispronounced Camden Yards.
Don't be too hard on the kid. He just witnessed his childhood dream become a reality. His mind was obviously going a mile a minute, and he had to do a plethora of media appearances following his selection. Hence, his very slight error. No big deal Heston!
Kjerstad's junior campaign was cut short due to the coronavirus pandemic, but even in his 16-game season, he put up strong numbers. The outfielder slashed .448/.513/.791 with six home runs, 19 runs, 20 RBI, and 30 hits, all of which were team-highs.
Kjerstad is slated to be a key piece in the Orioles' rebuild and you best believe that he'll hit some bombs to the warehouse of Camden Yards in the very near future.
