Luther Muhammad Becomes Latest Ohio State Basketball Player to Leave Program
By Scott Rogust
The Ohio State Buckeyes had their tremendous 2019-20 campaign cut short just ahead of the NCAA Tournament. Now, the Buckeyes are about to lose yet another player off their roster heading into next season.
An Ohio State spokesperson revealed Sunday that sophomore guard Luther Muhammad has officially entered the NCAA's transfer portal. Muhammad himself later confirmed the decision to 247Sports' Evan Daniels.
Muhammad isn't the only guard to reveal intentions to leave Columbus for another school. Former 5-star recruit DJ Carton also aims to transfer following just one season with the Buckeyes. Alonzo Gaffney had previously distanced himself from the team and is fully expected to depart as well.
So, what caused Muhammad to leave the OSU basketball program despite being set to take on an expanded role during his junior season? The Buckeyes successfully landing graduate transfer Seth Towns from Harvard surely factors in greatly here.
Muhammad originally joined the Buckeyes as a 4-star recruit that ranked as the 79th-best overall prospect in the nation. Now, he's off on a new adventure.
In his two seasons at Ohio State, Muhammad averaged 7.3 points, 2.5 rebounds, 1.5 assists, and 1.0 steals in 25.9 minutes. Muhammad started 56 of his 64 of his career games in Columbus.
