Packers Announce Changes to Player Personnel Department
By Michael Luciano
The Green Bay Packers won't lean on Brian Gutekunst alone to beef up their roster in the draft. The team is giving two young former players enhanced roles in the 2021 draft cycle.
The Packers promoted a pair of former Green Bay cornerbacks within their scouting department, hiring Demetri Goodson as a college scout while reassigning Brandian Ross within their scouting department.
Goodson was a former basketball player at Gonzaga for three seasons who ended up transferring to Baylor and converting into a cornerback. Goodson was selected in the sixth round of the 2014 draft by Green Bay, and he played on special teams and in dime packages for three seasons before he was forced to retire due to an injury. He spent last season as a scouting intern.
Ross was an undrafted free agent who signed with Green Bay in 2011 and bounced around the league for six years before joining them as a scouting intern in 2017. Ross was a college scout for the last two seasons, covering the Midlands region. He will switch to the Southwest in 2021 after the departure of Charles Walls.
Drafting is the only way the Packers will be able to keep up with the rest of the NFC. Making Goodson a full-time employee and retaining Ross should help Green Bay stay atop the division.
