This Packers-Buccaneers Trade for OJ Howard Would Finally Give Aaron Rodgers a Competent Tight End
With reports surfacing that suggest the Tampa Bay Buccaneers could be looking to trade young, talented tight end O.J. Howard, countless general managers must be intrigued about the possibility of such a deal. Does that include Green Bay Packers GM Brian Gutekunst? Well, it should.
The Packers are undoubtedly only a couple pieces away from making a serious run at bringing home another Super Bowl with Aaron Rodgers running the show. Adding a tight end of Howard's caliber would be almost too good to be true for AR12.
Despite Tom Brady arriving to the Bucs, Howard just doesn't fit all too well in Bruce Arians' system. That much was made clear last season, even with No. 80 battling injuries throughout the year. You know where he could really shine, though? Green Bay.
With Rodgers throwing the ball over the field, Howard could showcase his brilliant hands and take pressure off Davante Adams. With the Packers reportedly looking at bringing in another speedy WR too, the offense could really reach next-level status if they draft a young WR and trade for Howard.
What could get this deal done? Perhaps a fourth-round pick from Green Bay, who holds the No. 136 overall selection, should do it. While Howard, 25, is a starting-caliber tight end, he's already missed 10 games in his first three NFL seasons and has yet to log more than 565 receiving yards in a single season. The Bucs just simply can't expect to get much for him given the circumstances. Roll with Cameron Brate and take what you can get for now.
Sorry, Bill Belichick. You should have traded for Howard last season. Now, it's time for another team to step up and make a move to bring him home. That team should no question be the Packers. They owe it to Rodgers to finally provide him a talented TE option. Howard or bust.
