Packers Considering Drafting DK Metcalf and Passing on Him Could End Up Being the Most Poetic of Mistakes
By Michael Luciano
The Seattle Seahawks have been making the rest of the NFL look like fools after drafting Ole Miss deep threat DK Metcalf in the second round, and immediately watching him flourish. Coming off a strong rookie regular season, Metcalf's postseason debut was one to remember, as he helped lead the Seahawks past the Eagles in the Wild Card round.
Green Bay Packers head coach Matt Lafleur was extremely complimentary of Metcalf ahead of their game on Sunday, as he even asserted that Green Bay considered picking him in the second round last year, but ultimately ended up selecting Elgton Jenkins (who has also been outstanding).
Despite having showered Metcalf with praise, the Packers opted against picking him in the draft to act as an additional weapon for Aaron Rodgers. Now, they'll hope that decision doesn't end up working against them when they square off against the rookie wideout.
Metcalf piled up an even 900 yards to go along with seven touchdowns in 2019. Against a depleted Eagles secondary, Metcalf set the rookie record for receiving yards in a postseason debut when he racked up 160 yards and a touchdown on seven catches in a 17-9 win.
While Jenkins didn't allow a sack all year and looks like a bonafide starter for at least the next half-decade, the Packers passing on this Metcalf could come back to haunt them if he goes off at Lambeau come Sunday.
